A DESCRIPTION OF A SPRING EVENING IN ENGLAND.
[signed] Clio.
Yon ruddy streaks, that in the West appear,
Proclaim night's gloomy empire to be near,
The tree-tops glitter with a burnish'd light,
And lessen still, and lessen to the sight.
. . . [14 lines follow]
The choral warblers now surcease to sing,
Nor hill, nor valley, with their praises ring;
All but the charming Philomel, whose strain
Delights the ear, and echoes thro' the plain.
